"Loneliness is the human condition. Cultivate it. The way it tunnels into you allows your soul room to grow. Never expect to outgrow loneliness. Never hope to find people who will understand you, someone to fill that space. An intelligent, sensitive person is the exception, the very great exception. If you expect to find people who will understand you, you will grow murderous with disappointment. The best you’ll ever do is to understand yourself, know what it is that you want, and not let the cattle stand in your way."

Thom Browne Fall 2012 Ready to Wear

It’s been bothering me for a while, but I’ll use this particular image to say it: Fashion photography especially, but also art and film, fetishizes death/injury/maiming of women. Sometimes men, but nearly always women. Now, I get the whole psychological/sociological/gender-dynamic thing happening here, but I just want to say that it is stupid. Just stupid. Using mortality as a shortcut to profundity does not an artwork make. That’s all. It’s dumb.

Barbie, Ken and Midge 1962

Why does Barbie have red hair? This would have changed a decent part of my life had it continued.
